Gastronomy

The privileged environment in which Castropol is located helps the confluence between the products of the sea and the mountain, all this causes a rich and varied gastronomy.
The star product of Castropol and its Eo’s River are oysters.
Therefore in May every year is celebrated a Festival dedicated to them in the Paseo del Muelle where in addition to tasting them you will be able to know the oyster’s world and participate in endless activities. Nowadays two companies are involved in their exploitation and distribution (including on-line). Many tons of oyster come out of the estuary, reaching to ahieve the greatest production of Asturias. However, most of this production is acquired by France and only 20% of the production that comes out of Eo waters is consumed in the national territory.
In addition to the great variety of molluscs and other crustaceans, the quality and diversity of the rock fish is widely known, allowing you to taste dishes such as clams in sea style, baked bass, sea bream on the back, hake pans, monkfish in Galician style, etc.
Neither should we forget the important role that mountains play in gastronomy: sausages, meats, pig slaughtering products incomparable land offering the best products from the garden to get unparalleled tastes.
